BEHIND THE LINE UP: HOT SINCE 82

January 17, 2014

With Brrrr just around the corner, its time we start introducing some of the artists that will be heating up the stages at this years winter music festival. Happening on February 1st 2014 at Echo Beach, our partners at Electronic Nation and Embrace will be bringing an eclectic lineup of electronic artists to satisfy the festival season withdrawal. Two stages will host multiple artists, including those who will be bringing the extra heat to the heated 'Corona Techno Dome.'

The first artist we are happy to introduce is the very appropriately named Hot Since 82 (see above photo: ladies amiright?). Hailing from Yorkshire in England and making his rounds through the club scene of nearby Leeds, Daley Padley aka Hot Since 82 has recently skyrocketed to the top of the deep sound charts and to the top of every club and festival promoters wish list. At 31 years young Padley has risen to international fame thanks to the support of superstar DJs like Richie Hawtin and Luciano and his remix of Rudimental's 'Right Here' received consistent airtime after becoming Pete Tong's "Essential New Tune" on BBC's Radio One in late June. Although his increased popularity may be recent his skills are nothing new. In 2011 he released the "Hot Jams Vol. 1" EP on Noir Music which included the hit single 'Let it Ride.'

His most triumphant release to date however is undoubtedly his debut album 'Little Black Book' which was released on the label Moda Black in October 2013. This album is a true testament to Padley's diverse yet signature sound. Within each of the 13 tracks  on this LP you will find rolling percussions and deep melodies each used in a unique  and complex way. This album includes his own productions such as the popular 'Shadows' featuring Alex Mills, 'Chords' and the beautifully climactic song 'The End' which is easily my favourite track on the album and one I hope to hear bring his Brrrrr set to a close. Also found on this album are some of his best remix projects such as the aforementioned rework of Rudimental's "Right Here" as well as his remix of Shadow Child's "So High." While his original productions are every type of amazing his approach to remixes deserves a much need nod of approval and his remix of Green Velvet's "Bigger Than Prince" can easily be regarded as one of THE tunes of the year.

2013 was a massive year for Padley and the fact that he was able to balance an intense tour schedule while maintaining such a high output of production truly speaks to the type of artist that he is. Few electronic artists are able to say that they completed two Essential Mixes in one year however this whiskey drinking, star wars loving DJ has earned that bragging right. His individually commissioned Essential Mix premiered in August and his Back to Back set with Steve Lawler at Warehouse Project in November was recorded as a live to air Essential Mix. His insane touring schedule clearly illustrates his skill level on the decks and has included invites to Richie Hawtin's parties in Ibiza to earning festival slots around the world such as playing Stereosonic and Coachella. Although the best event he is going to play is Toronto's Brrrrr Festival in February, it's still good to know where one can catch him live. Speaking of live, check out his amazing Boiler Room set to get an idea of what to expect inside the Techno Dome (try and ignore the snap chatting and insta-dicks in the background if you can).

Make sure to take some time to get to know Hot Since 82 by purchasing Little Black Book, checking out his Essential Mix(s) or streaming one of his live sets like the one above. You can also grab his latest "Knee Deep" mix for free right here. Hot Since 82 will be joining the likes of Sharam, Lee Foss, Eric Volta and Holloh in the Techno Dome while Wolfgang Gartner, Bassjackers, Felix Cartel, Joe Ghost, Henrix and Matt Zanardo will be rocking the outdoor MainStage. Brrrrr! will be taking place on February 1st 2014 at Toronto's Echo Beach.
