DATSIK AT THE GUVERNMENT

January 5, 2013

With the influx of Dubstep and bass heavy talent that has been emerging, it is sometimes hard to keep up with the fresh sounds and talent that is circulating. However, unless you have been living under a rock or in a technology deprived commune for the past three years, the name Datsik should standout amongst the crowd. Especially for Canadian bass heads. Coming out of Kelowna, British Columbia, Troy Beetles, very famously known as ‘Datsik’ has been producing some of the best Dubstep tunes to hit the cyberwaves and to be played out by some of the biggest names in the scene for the past few years, and shows no signs of stopping. Datsik has worked closely with another big name from the westcoast, Excision, releasing their first collaboration ‘Swagga’ back in 2009. He has also worked with the likes of 12th Planet, Kill the Noise, Diplo and Bare. Datsik has released tracks on some of the biggest names in the game, from Basshead, Smog, Aoki’s Dim Mak and Diplo’s Mad Decent and now his exclusive label Firepower Records. However, the track ‘King Kong’ released on Subhuman with Bare has been recognized as one of his biggest hits… until now.

Set to release on January 8th Datsik and Excision have recently uploaded their newest track ‘Vindicate’ as part of the Cold Blooded EP coming out on the 22nd of January. This track, with its sci-fi sounding intro, set on a catchy ass drum that leads into a bassline that basically ricochets between your speakers, illustrates the strength that these two guys share when they collaborate. The sound of this track still carries some of the generic qualities that are all over Dubstep at the moment… but these qualities seem to be done in a way that even those (such as myself) who are sick of dubstep, cant help but shake their ass to. This is Datsik’s first original release since his Vitamin D LP back in April of 2012, and it shows that the wait was worth it.

If you love his music but have yet to experience a set of his, ask those who attended WEMF this summer. The crowd – was nuts. Arguably one of the best sets of the weekend in terms of Dubstep, the energy was high and the bass was low. Datsik was also part of Steve Aoki’s Deadmeat Tour last spring which touched down at the Kool Haus and he absolutely smashed it in front of a sold out crowd, giving the headliner Aoki a run for his money. Expect nothing less of this when he touches down on January 11th 2013 alongside Brillz, Barron and local hero Hydee.

In the spirit of doomsday Datsik uploaded a teaser of what the Firepower Tour is going to be bringing to us. Check the link below and hit up the Destiny soundcloud page for a free download.
