Toronto has been a breeding ground for many talented producers over the past years, many of whom have blown up to international fame. Zeds Dead, Torro Torro, and The Killabits are just a handful of names that have moved from small Queen West clubs to now playing some of the biggest stages in the world. A fresh name to follow in this path is the up and coming producer Grandtheft although his style is difficult to categorize. Through his making of house/electro house tracks which carry the sounds of trap as well as the “twerkable” sounds of moombah, his quick rise in popularity has been easy for his music leaves no one standing still.

Known for his live and eclectic DJ sets, Grandtheft has also been recognized for his amazing skill in reworking some of the biggest tracks. Remixing the likes of A-trak, Drake, Steve Aoki and most recently Keys n’ Krates. He even collaborated with Diplo on the remix of Calvin Harris’ ‘Sweet Nothing.’ His most recent releases have come out on labels such as Ultra, Dim Mak, Top Billin’ and Interscope. With support from major names such as Flosstradamus (also preforming at Digital Dreams), Skream, Craze and Major Lazer it is obvious that Grandtheft is a name we need to watch. When Diplo is supporting your music whenever he can, from including Grandtheft’s Crystal Castles Remix on his ‘Endless Summer Playlist’ to giving Grandtheft a guest mix on his ‘Diplo and Friends’ BBC Radio show, the only way for this Toronto export to go is up.

The man behind Grandtheft has a touring schedule that many would admire (or dread) playing over 150 shows in the past year, circulating around Canada, the States and beyond. He is scheduled to appear at this years Mad Decent Block Party in Toronto, Boonstock Festival, Camp Bisco, and hosting gigs at Surrender Nightclub in Vegas. The hosts of the North American chapter of Tomrrowland, which is September’s Tomorrow World festival, have also recruited him to make an appearance at the festivals debut in Georgia. However, one of the biggest festivals on his touring schedule this summer is without a doubt Digital Dreams festival which is now just days away. Playing the House of Boom stage on the first day of the festival (Satuday June 29th) his high energy live DJ set will bring us a mix of fresh remixes and products of his own that cannot be categorized into one genre. A description of what to expect is unattainable for the taste and talent of this man is like very few others. The only thing I can explain is that you will want to be at the House of Boom stage next Saturday when Grandtheft takes the decks for a set that will definitely make Toronto proud. Prepare to Get Based.
